Getting Remote Support

A technician can remotely control your Linux, Mac, or Windows PC over the Internet for certain troubleshooting or other tasks. Not having to physically travel to your home or business saves time, money, and the environment.

Most broadband Internet connections will work, including cable, DSL, 4G, and fixed wireless (such as Montana Internet). We do request that you avoid downloading files or watching videos during the support session, so the technician will have a clearer image of your screen and an easier time solving your issue.

Follow the steps below to get started. If you run into issues, we’re just a phone call away!

  1. Click here to schedule an appointment, or call us.
  2. When it’s time for your appointment, run the remote support software.
    • If you’re using a Linux computer we set up for you, it’s already installed! Look for the “Netsyms Remote Support” program in the Internet category on your app launcher menu (“start menu”).
    • If your computer has Ubuntu, Linux Mint, or another Debian-based Linux OS, add this repository, and run the command sudo apt install netsyms-remote-support. (View a short tutorial video)
    • If you’re running Windows or Mac, click here to download the remote support tool. Note that Apple restricts how you use your computer, so the remote support might not work correctly until you change some settings. The app will prompt you to do this.
    • If you have a non-Debian-based Linux computer, click here to download the tool. It’s packaged inside a .tar file, which you can open with an archive manager app. Once you’ve extracted the file inside, double-click the file to run the remote support tool.
  3. A Netsyms technician will call you at the scheduled time.
